OvaRH

OvaRH is an exclusive trade name of Syndel International Inc. for aquaculture

  • OvaRH is a synthetic analogue of Salmon GnRH
  • OvaRH is a patented molecule that is manufactured to meet drug standards
  • OvaRH is up to 17 times more potent than LHRH in fish
  • OvaRH is effective in salmonids, including:
    • Atlantic Salmon, Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Arctic Charr and many other fish including carp species and catfish species.

RECOMMENDED DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATIONMETHOD.
  • Injected in saline to induce ovulation and Spermiation
  • Single dose is effective in many cases
  • Primer dose of ¼ dose followed by final dose in some species
  • Spawning of groups can be synchronized
  • Ovulation of females and spermiation of males can be induced concurrently
  • Time of spawning can be advanced.

SEDATION FOR HANDLING

  • If sedation is required,. use a plastic or glass tank of sufficient size to hold the fish. Anesthetize with Tricaine Methanesulfonate or Marinil at the recommended level, being sure to mix thoroughly BEFORE adding the fish. Always handle fish gently. Avoid contact between the anesthetic solution and eggs or milt.

DOSE CALCULATION

  • Weigh or estimate the weight of the fish. The weight of the fish will determine the amount of OvaRH required for injection.

INJECTING OvaRH

  • DOSE- A general dose of OvaRH is 5 to 10 micrograms per kilogram of body weight. This dose may vary among species and locations. Males may require a reduced dose. Ensure that an adequate ratio of males and females are induced at the same time.
  • CLEANLINESS - Ensure that all equipment is clean and, if possible, sterilized. Wear gloves.
  • LOADING - Dissolve the OvaRH powder in saline. From the bottle of OvaRH withdraw only enough solution required for one fish.
  • INJECTION - Hold the fish firmly and insert the needle into the belly behind the pelvic fin or in the muscle on either side of the dorsal fin. Inject OvaRH carefully, and quickly remove the needle. Gently place the fish into a container of fresh, aerated water.
  • RECOVERY- After the fish has recovered from sedation (5 to 10 minutes), return it to the breeding tank. More than one fish may be induced at the same time.
PRESENTATION
  • OvaRH is packaged as preweighed powder for preparation in saline. Precise amounts for individual injection can then be extracted safely from the bottle directly into a syringe.
STABILITY & STORAGE
  • Stored at refrigerated temperature (40C) and out of direct sunlight, the shelf-life of OvaRH exceeds 18 months.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
  • OvaRH is a physiological agent used to stimulate ovulation or spermiation. Workers should avoid direct contact. Keep out of reach of children.
GENERAL REMARKS
  • OvaRH has been used under many conditions to induce spawning or spermiation in fish.
  • OvaRH stimulates the production of the fish's own reproductive hormones to release eggs or sperm for fertilization. Fish must be sexually mature.
  • OvaRH is administered by injection. Use an appropriate sterile syringe and needle
  • Environment and temperature play a significant role in the reproductive process and may affect does and timing.
