Section II - HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS

Section III - HEALTH & FIRST AID INFORMATION

INHALATION: May irritate. Remove patient to fresh air. Seek medical attention if discomfort persists.

INGESTION: Large doses (15-30 g) fatal, smaller doses may cause gastro-enteritis, abdominal pain, vomiting, muscular weakness, irregular pulse, convulsions and collapse. Seek medical attention immediately.

EYE CONTACT: Irritates (nuisance dust). Rinse eyes thoroughly for at least 15 minutes.

SKIN CONTACT: May irritate. Wash thoroughly with soap and water.

OTHER HEALTH INFORMATION:      

LD50 = 4.3 grams/kg (oral, rat)

LDLo = 200 mg/kg (oral, rat)

LDLo = 500 mg/kg (oral, human)

 

Section IV - PHYSICAL DATA

BOILING POINT: 380oC (decomposes)

MELTING POINT: 308oC

SPECIFIC GRAVITY (WATER = 1): 2.26

SOLUBILITY IN WATER: Approx. 480 g/l @ 25oC

APPEARANCE AND ODOUR: Odorless white to light yellow crystalline powder.

 

Section V - FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS

SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES & PRECAUTIONS: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

UNUSUAL FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARDS: May ignite with friction, may explode if shocked or heated to 538oC, may cause fire on contact with combustible material.

 

Section VI - REACTIVITY

STABILITY: Stable

HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: Will not occur.

CONDITIONS & MATERIALS TO AVOID: Acetic anhydride with copper, cyanide, powdered or aluminum oxide, Barium thiocyanate, Sodium hypophosphite, Sodium thiosulphate.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: Toxic NOx fumes.

 

Section VII - EMPLOYEE PROTECTION

CONTROL MEASURES: Use in a well ventilated area.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Dust mask if dust is expected or if handling large quantities.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING: Gloves

EYE PROTECTION: Safety goggles if dust is expected or if handling large quantities.

 

Section VIII - ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS: Remove all combustible material from spill site.

SPILL OR LEAK PRECAUTIONS: Wear goggles, gloves and dust mask. Carefully sweep or scoop spill into a salvage container and hold for disposal. Wash the spill site thoroughly to remove oxidising residue.

WASTE DISPOSAL: Small spill may be run to waste, diluting greatly with water. For large spills, seek the advice of a professional disposal service.
