Section III - HEALTH & FIRST AID INFORMATION

INHALATION: Irritates, may burn. Remove patient from exposure, rest and keep warm. Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

INGESTION: Irritates, may burn. Can cause nausea, vomiting, kidney damage and burns. Give plenty of milk and induce vomiting. Seek medical attention immediately.

EYE CONTACT: Severe irritant, may burn. Thoroughly rinse eyes for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention immediately.

SKIN CONTACT: Irritates. Wash thoroughly with soap and water. Seek medical attention if severe.

EFFECTS OF ACUTE EXPOSURE: Can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, nasal and respiratory passages. Ingestion can cause irritation to the GI tract, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

EFFECTS OF CHRONIC EXPOSURE: Prolonged skin contact may cause defatting and dermatitis. Chronic manganese poisoning by ingestion and inhalation can result in harmful effects on the central nervous system. Early symptoms include sluggishness, sleepiness and weakness in the legs. Advanced cases have shown symptoms of fixed facial expression, emotional disturbances, spastic gait and falling. Ingestion may result in kidney damage.

SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES & PRECAUTIONS: Use water, CO2 or dry powder.

UNUSUAL FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARDS: Serious risk of fire when in contact with organic materials. Containers may explode.

STABILITY: Stable

HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: Will not occur

CONDITIONS & MATERIALS TO AVOID: Most organic compounds, metallic powders, elemental Sulphur, Potassium and Carbon. Hydrochloric acid, hydrazine, hydroxylamine, Hydrogen peroxide, metal hydrides and glycerine.

CONTROL MEASURES: Use in well ventilated area

Section VIII - ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS: If possible, remove all combustible materials from the spill area.

SPILL OR LEAK PRECAUTIONS: Wear gloves and goggles. Scoop or sweep spill into salvage container and hold for disposal. Mop up spill site thoroughly with plenty of water to remove residue.

WASTE DISPOSAL: Consult a professional disposal service.
