TMS

TMS is exclusively distributed by Syndel International Inc. for aquaculture

TMS is used for anesthesia or sedation of fish for tagging, weight sampling, spawning, transportation, experimentation, photography in aquaria and surgery. Consult your veterinarian or health care professional.

RECOMMENDED DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATIONMETHOD
  • Dose: 40 - 50 ppm
  • Immerse fish until desired depth of sedation or anesthesia is reached. The maximum exposure time is 30 minutes.
  • Dissolve measured amount of TMS in sufficient volume of water to provide the final desired concentration.
  • Immerse fish in clean water until recovery is complete.
  • Caution:
    • Use plastic or glass containers for TMS solutions.
    • Maintain adequate oxygenation and acidity of solutions .
    • Use at water temperatures of 10°C or greater.
  • Warning:
    • Treated fish must not be slaughtered for use in food for at least 5 days after the latest treatment with TMS at water temperatures of 10°C or greater
PRESENTATION
  • TMS is available in 100 gram and 1 kg bottles.
COMPOSITION
  • TMS is the tradename for Tricaine methanesulfonate.
STABILITY & STORAGE
  • TMS powder is very stable when kept cool and dry in a tightly closed container.
  • TMS solutions decompose slowly, are slowly inactivated by fish, and may become toxic when exposed to strong sunlight for several hours (keep bath in the shade).
  • For best results use freshly made TMS solutions, or freeze stock solutions for dilution and use at a later time
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
  • Stressors such as handling, low oxygen, high temperatures, and crowding should be minimized before, during and after anesthesia.
  • Always test dose and response with a small group of fish first.
  • Use an anesthesia container made of inert material (glass or plastic is best), as TMS may react with zinc or copper and produce a toxic effect.
  • Maintain constant water temperature through holding, anesthesia and recovery.
  • Change TMS anaesthetic solution frequently.
  • Maintain oxygenation throughout anesthesia and recovery. Add air or oxygen as required.
  • For periods of long anesthesia, neutralize the pH of the TMS solution to the pH of the holding tank with sodium bicarbonate.
  • Keep TMS solutions away from eggs and milt during spawning.

Note: This product is not available in USA and availability in other locales may also be subject to approvals or registration with local regulatory agencies.
